Texas Family Lawyers:

As you ease into this work week, I want to remind you of a message the Supreme Court released via Twitter (link posted below).

Many of our colleagues, clients, the judiciary, and their staff have just started rebuilding. Much of last week was spent trying to survive extreme temperatures in extreme situations. It will take time to get back to normal – which still wasn’t even “normal.” Many in our legal community were already suffering health or financial difficulties due to the pandemic that were exacerbated by the storm. The safest and most gracious course of action is to grant all reasonable extensions and resets.

As we struggle through yet another phase of rebuilding, use the Texas Lawyer’s Creed as your guide in difficult situations. Now is an excellent time to refresh your staff and clients on the Creed, especially section III (4) – “I will advise my client that civility and courtesy are expected and are not a sign of weakness.”

There is a particular type of grit and determination that I know is prevalent in Texas Family Lawyers. Let’s focus that strength on the civility and courtesy we need to get everyone back on their feet.
