Texas Bar Foundation awards grant to Family Law Section for Leadership Class

The Family Law Section is honored to be a recipient of a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation in support of our Leadership Class program. With the gracious financial support of the Texas Bar Foundation, the Family Law Section will continue to promote the highest degree of professionalism, education, fellowship, and excellence in the practice of family law.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $28 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation.

The Family Law Section Leadership Class is a two-year program for a select number of qualified applicants who are identified as having high potential for future leadership in family law. The class involves multiple components including leadership training, mentorship, exposure to the operations of the Family Law Section as well as other family law related organizations, pro bono work, and a class project.

The first year of the FLS Leadership Class is dedicated to leadership training, mentorship, and exposure to the Family Law Section and other family law organizations. The second year primarily focuses on the class project, continued mentorship, and pro bono involvement. Every participant is paired with at least one mentor from our extensive list of experienced family law practitioners.

The program has a focus on pro bono work to help low-income Texans in need of legal assistance. Each class member will be responsible for taking on four pro bono cases through their local pro bono organizations during the two-year class period. The class members and mentors will discuss these cases together and ensure the class members deliver quality legal work to some low-income Texans in need of legal assistance.
