Our goal is to reach at least 100 pro bono cases taken around the State of Texas as a result of this competition.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Participants will compete against others in their divisions (individuals compete against other individuals while teams compete against each other in divisions based on team size).
  • After signing up, start taking pro bono cases from a pro bono agency of your choosing (or other source) and helping vulnerable Texas families.
  • Report your pro bono cases to us upon completion but no later than April 1, 2026.
  • The individual and teams with the most points at the end of the competition period win their division.

Take on as many pro bono cases as possible within the competition period.

Submit the reporting forms below when pro bono cases are completed (and no later than April 1, 2026).

Get Stuck on your pro bono case? Below is a list of experienced and well-qualified family lawyers, listed by geographic area, that have pre-agreed to answer participant's questions over the phone about their pro bono case in the event they get stuck or just need some helpful advice on what to do next. These family lawyers have volunteered to assist participants. To be clear, these volunteers are available to answers questions and will not co-counsel a case or be a guide/mentor for an entire case.

What is Justice In Action: Texas Family Law Pro Bono Challenge?

It is a project of the Family Law Section Leadership Class designed to promote and encourage pro bono work among family lawyers.

Can family lawyers participate individually or as part of a team?

Yes. Participants can elect whether to compete individually or compete as part of a team. If wanting to participate as a team, each participant can choose to either start their own team and recruit team members or join a team created by someone else.

How do participants get assigned pro bono cases for the competition?

Each participant will need to reach out to a pro bono agency in their area and request pro bono cases from that area. A list of pro bono agencies by geographic area can be found above or by clicking HERE.

How are winners determined in the competition?

The individual or team that completed the most pro bono cases in their division over the course of the competition period wins their division.

What is the overall goal of the competition?

Our goal is that this competition will result in over 100 pro bono family law cases being taken around the State of Texas.
